Indus water could boost Pakistan's foreign exchange, report says

   research by scientists

Scientists have suggested that Pakistan change the model of the Indus River to make electricity cheaper and increase foreign exchange reserves.

The research report was jointly prepared by scientists from Capital University and Technology Islamabad, Victoria University Australia, Tashkent and Uzbekistan.

The research report recommended that 50% of the Indus water be used for hydroelectric power.

Scientists have said that Pakistan can increase foreign exchange by 11.83 percent by increasing hydropower generation and the implementation of this project will also reduce the cost of electricity.

According to the report, the current model of the Indus Basin in Pakistan needs time to renew itself.

The research report claimed that with the renewal of the Indus Basin model, Pakistan could easily achieve the Sustainable Development Plan 2040.

Emphasis has been placed on increasing olive cultivation along the Indus River to increase foreign exchange.

It is also recommended to include seasonal effects on the Indus in the model.
